What is Soulful Self-Care
Soulful self-care, in essence, is a blend of mindfulness, simple acts of self-love and cherished rituals that foster inner peace. Soulful self-care is all about tuning into your inner thoughts and feelings, letting you fully soak up the here and now. It is an internal practice of self-reflection, personal growth and reconnecting to your inmost being.
We live in a world that focuses on the external. We are always outwardly striving to be more, make more, do more and have more. While there is nothing wrong with setting goals and living up to your full potential, it is also important to find balance between pushing and accepting the here and now.
Soulful self-care allows time to focus on your internal being. This requires stillness to hear the gentle whispers of your heart. Investing time caring for your inner self paves the way for a more profound spiritual healing and awareness of who you truly are. Soulful self-care creates a more meaningful life and embraces feelings of serenity, peace and joy.
How can soulful self-care improve your mental health and well-being?
Soulful self-care can improve mental health and well-being by allowing individuals to prioritize self-reflection, self-expression, and self-compassion. Engaging in activities that bring joy, peace, and fulfillment can reduce stress, increase self-esteem, and promote overall emotional balance and resilience.

4 Reasons To Begin A Daily Soulful Self-Care Routine
Below are 4 reasons to begin a daily soulful self-care routine. A soulful self-care routine is different than a daily schedule. It is meant to help you become aware of your inner world of thoughts and feelings allowing you to live your best self in the present moment.
1. Start and end your day with a positive mindset
Having a daily routine helps you prioritize what’s really important, making sure your day kicks off and wraps up on a positive note. You can integrate this routine in the morning, evening, or both for best results.
2. Eases stress and anxiety
Practicing a daily soulful self-care routine invites you to slow down, take deep breaths and connect to your mind and body. In this tranquil space, you find solace, letting go of the weight of daily physical, mental, and emotional burdens.
3. Boosts your mood
Developing a daily soulful self-care routine helps you cope with midlife mood swings related to emotional stress and symptoms of menopause. Simply by bringing awareness to our emotions and any discomfort, we can learn to process our feelings in a healthy way and manage our emotional wellbeing. Through a daily practice of cultivating calmness, you can uplift your mood and manage your emotions.
4.Improves your physical health
A holistic approach to creating a daily soulful self-care routine improves your physical health as well as mental and emotional wellness. Consider weaving in physical practices such as Yoga or Tai Chi, or even a simple walk into your daily routine. Mindful movement like Yoga or Tai Chi daily can improve your sleep quality, promote balance, strength, and increase flexibility for every part of your body.
6 Simple Steps To Create A New Soulful Self-Care Routine
By creating a new soulful self-care routine, you are stepping out of your comfort zone and creating a new habit for yourself. Habits are easier to commit to, when they are given structure and scheduled into daily life. A daily soulful self-care practice can best be implemented during the morning routine to prepare you for your day and again at night preparing you for restful sleep. It can include activities such as meditation, affirmations, prayer, gratitude practice, mindful walking, journaling, a home spa, Yoga, or Tai Chi. Soulful self-care practices can last a few minutes or a few hours depending on each person. Below are 6 simple steps to create your own routine.
Step 1- Time of Day
Decide what time of day fits best into your current life schedule. Do you want to start your new routine in the morning when you rise? In the evening before bed? Or both a morning and evening routine? Be honest with yourself about what you can commit to.
Step 2- Amount of Time
After you are clear about the time of day you want to implement your new routine, decide on the amount of time you want to dedicate to your soulful self-care practice. It’s easier to begin with shorter amounts of time at first and add more time as you grow. For example, you can begin with a 10 minute morning practice and progress to 20 minutes later on.
Step 3- Activity
The next step to creating your soulful self-care routine is to choose one or two practices from the following list or add your own:
- Meditation
- Prayer
- Breathwork
- Affirmations
- Gratitude
- Journaling
- Walking Meditation
- Forest Bathing/Nature Meditation
- Yoga
- Tai Chi
- Chi Gong
Write down which practices appeal to you the most, even if you have never experienced them before.
Step 4- Schedule
Now that you have chosen the time of day, the amount of time you will dedicate to your soulful self-care routine and the daily practices you will commit to, it’s time to block out that time in your daily schedule. You are more likely to follow your new self-care routine if it is scheduled into your day. Below are free planning pages to help you create your soulful self-care routine.
Step 5- Begin
Beginning your your new soulful self-care routine may feel intimidating, especially if you are learning new practices such as meditation or Yoga. It may be helpful to begin with a familiar practice such as journaling or prayer. Remember you are taking time to quiet your mind, prepare for stillness and self-reflection.
Step 6- Tracking & Rewards
When you first begin your new soulful self-care routine, you may be tempted to skip days or make excuses for not prioritizing your self-care needs. It is important to remember why you are beginning this journey for yourself. Tracking your progress helps you stay accountable to yourself and commit to your journey. There are many effective ways to track your progress through written habit tracking journaling pages or personal habit tracking apps. The Free Soulful Self-Care Journal will help you get started.
